Network Management

Network management applications now have the capability of integrating their network management systems with social media interfaces via Smartphones and tablets.

Apparently, Enterasys Networks is enabling its routers, switches and Wi-Fi equipment to join Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Then an IT admin can “follow” or “join” those devices which can communicate their status via those social media and also receive commands back.

The reason for this is to utilise the 70 or so worldwide languages that social networks support, enabling IT admins to circumvent CLI and removes the need to run a specific client NMS application.

Network management can de done anywhere and at anytime with two-factor authentication security as well as layers on audit capabilities, authorisation, access control and encryption.

It is a case of greater automation of network infrastructure management, which enables IT to be more innovative and more closely aligned to business needs rather than involved in administrative network management tasks.
