Latest results of a small UK survey of Heads of IT in the commercial and public sectors reveals that cloud computing is getting a lukewarm reception.
Half of the commercial organisations have not been influenced by cost cutting when appraising cloud computing – an improved, flexible and more resilient infrastructure was a greater driver with regard to take-up of the cloud.
Over 60% of all Heads of IT surveyed said that they do not envisage using a cloud-based infrastructure as a future revenue stream. 50% believe that they have the capability within their current IT resources to plan and manage migration to a cloud-based infrastructure.
The organisations surveyed are yet to be committed to the idea of a cloud infrastructure; with only 14% saying they were fully committed while 46% said they were partially committed.
All in all, the conclusion is that Heads of IT are cautionary about going to the cloud.
